Course description

  Freeski Camps

We aim to ski all day provided that the weather and your fitness allow for it.
On the first day of the course, we do a few warm-up runs together first. Then all participants are divided into different groups depending on their level of skiing ability. The average number of people per group and coach is 7-8 (the maximum number is 10).
You’ll be taught the technique in easy terrain, i.e. on piste, first. Once you’ve internalised the technique, you’ll be able to practice it in deep powder snow (as long as the weather and snow conditions permit).

Each participant is videoed as often as possible. At the end of the day (sometimes during lunch break!) everyone can watch his or her “dream turn” without ruffle or excitement during the video analysis.

Our ABS technique allows you to ski on any type of snow and in any terrain, through deep powder snow and on the piste. We’re not talking about a new anti-lock braking system for skis. ABS is the abbreviation of the most important phases of a natural, energy-saving turn. You start by turning your upper body, then you bend your legs which turn “themselves” and then you stand up. In German, this is called “Andrehen, Beugen, Strecken” – in short, “ABS”.

Never skied in deep powder snow?
Those who have never skied in deep powder snow will be taught how to turn very slowly first – almost in slow-motion - using the snow plow. It’s only after they’ve mastered these turns that we increase the speed.

We make sure that the top groups are able to spend most of their time skiing off-piste. We know all the best deep powder snow slopes. Their technique gets analysed after skiing on the basis of the videos taken during the day.

Equipment required
Normal ski gear, possibly a small backpack, sun screen

Ortovox avalanche transceiver:

All participants skiing off-piste will be equipped with an Ortovox avalanche transceiver. If you have a transceiver of your own, please take it along (don’t forget to check the batteries!)

Ladies Powder Special:
We also offer women only courses. The ABS technique suits women especially because it emphasises natural moves and motions and thus allows women to ski comfortably - unlike your “conventional” skiing techniques which emphasise “putting pressure”, “putting your weight onto…”, “edge control”, “up/down”, “using poles” and so on.

Deep powder snow skiing can be easier and safer than skiing on piste.

Personal Coaching („private tuition“)
You get intensive training with the top Garhammer coaches when choosing personal coaching. It offers the ultimate deep powder snow experience. You are taught on a one-on-one basis or in a small group ensuring that you’ll improve very quickly. You are videoed also, and the videos get analysed at lunch or in the evening. On request, we also offer personal coaching in ski regions that are not listed in the programme. We especially recommend personal coaching to prepare for heliskiing!

Beginner’s course… for those who have never skied before
We suggest doing the highly effective 2-day “private course” (personal coaching!). We don’t recommend doing a group course if you are a complete beginner!
Da empfehlen wir einen besonders effektiven 2 –Tage „Privatkurs“ (Personal Coaching!)
Von einem Gruppenkurs raten wir eher ab !
